Swagg2x Interview with Consciousness Magazine

Interviewed and written by Aaron Robinson –Editor @iamcomprehend

When Swagg2x visited his father’s recording studio, music would change his life forever. Born in the inner-city of Chicago, he grew up wanting to change the rap game and eventually created his own style of music called The ChiStyle. Later, he would find his way to recording timeless music and performing with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The journey wasn’t overnight for the thriving artist. Swagg2x (Craig Turner), when he was younger, he got introduced to many genres and styles of music as his family moved to various areas around the country. As time progressed he created several groups with his peers as they would rise to a level of success. Swaggx2, the phenomenal artist anticipates conquering more in the music industry while continuing to take his music globally.

Outside of music, Swagg2x is involved with various organizations where he makes an impact in and outside of his community. He is an inspiration to the youth and also the older adults as he persists to meet his goals not only as an artist but in life. Motivated to create generational wealth for himself and others depicts the type of person he is as an individual – giving, sharing and caring for others.

I, Consciousness Magazine, had the opportunity to interview the great talent we know as Swagg2x. Here is what he has to share during a recent interview.

Aaron Robinson: What was your motivation to want to become an artist?

Swagg2x: My motivation to become an artist came from watching my father perform on stage as a young kid. I knew that's what I wanted to do. It started with my dancing and transitioned into me becoming an artist.

Aaron: Your artist name is very unique. Where did the name Swagg2x derive from?

Swagg2x: Swagg2x came from a close friend of mine… shout out lotto producer from Chicago. He said I always dressed with that swagg and be double fresh and swagg2x is what we came up with.

Aaron: Do you have any upcoming projects that you are looking to release soon?

Swagg2x: Yes, I have a highly anticipated EP dropping called FUTURISTIK. I’ve been working on this EP for about two years. I got some Chicago artist on their as well.

Aaron: Within the culture of hip hop, you created your own style called The ChiStyle. How did this style originate?

Swagg2x: Well, the style originated from Chicago of course. I went to college in Oklahoma and that’s where I was introduced to Jiggin Dance…a fun up-tempo type vibe. Nobody was doing that at the time in Chicago and [the style also originated] from me being in a group called Street Poets with some college friends from the South. I was able to hear music that Chicago didn't know about. It opened up my mind and style to something different and I brought that dance vibe and fun vibe back to Chicago. The rest is history.

Aaron: Who are some artists that you would like to work with?

Swagg2x: There is a bunch of artist that I would love to work with, such as Young Thug, Future, Lil Wayne, Shaboozey, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Don Toliver, just to name several.

Aaron: It’s rare that some artist recognize potential in other artist. What was inside of you that led you to want to embrace other artist so that they can become successful and live out their dream?

Swagg2x: Early on while being in the industry, I seen a lot of key holders holding away the key from me. I didn't understand why until I embraced the stage. My heart was always real and big on loyalty…sometimes to fault, but I learned and adapted. Now being in the position I am in and meeting so many great people in the industry, I wanted to be the guy that changes the narrative. I love seeing other artist fulfill their dream, because if I help them God gone bless me tenfold. So, I'm big on watching others be great. That's why Chicago loves me so much.

Aaron: As an artist and from a music business perspective, what words of encouragement would you share with artists who are looking to be successful in the music industry?

Swagg2x: Never give up! Keep grinding! It will come if you stay consistent and the music matches the energy you put out! Be good to people; be good to everyone because that goes a long way. And always keep God first… you gone win anyway.

Aaron: You also inspire and empower youth in and outside of your community. Can you tell us a little about this?

Swagg2x: Yes, I have a son that's four and a daughter that's eight. I think about the youth every day. So, it comes to me easily. My mentor Roger Jones of Youth Peace Center in Roseland taught me everything about dealing with the community. Performing for schools all over and talking to kids… all they need is guidance and love.
